Changes to Medway Advocacy Services

Medway Council have recently announced that from 1st July 2017, all statutory Advocacy Services in Medway will be delivered by PoHWER.

Advocacy supports people to help them explore their choices and options and access information and services.

Operating in Medway since 2014, POhWER are a national charity that provides information, advocacy and advice services across England. They offer direct and local support through Professionals and Volunteers.

Their independent, free services reach individuals struggling with particular challenges in their lives.

From 1st July 2017 all statutory advocacy services in Medway will be delivered by POhWER. The new service will help:

  • People who need support to make a complaint about their NHS treatment
  • People detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 or subject to recall to hospital
  • People referred by Social Services under the Care Act to facilitate care and support assessment, planning and review and safeguarding
  • People referred by Social Services or the NHS to support decision making around changes of accommodation and serious medical treatment

The service will help people to express their views, wishes and concerns so they can be genuinely considered when decisions are being made by others about their lives.

For more information, or to make a referral, you can currently visit the Medway POhWER website, or you can write to them at:

PO Box 14043

B6 9BL

There will also be a referral helpline and email service, and the Council advises these will be available as of Saturday July 1st 2017.
