Microsoft Imposes Restrictions on Office 365 Services to Ease Demand during COVID-19 Pandemic

Microsoft has sent out an advisory to Office 365 tenants notifying of imminent changes to reduce the load on the servers.

As part of their commitment to customers and Microsoft Cloud Services during these unprecedented times, Microsoft (MS) is making some temporary adjustments to select capabilities within 365.

These temporary changes will be made to OneNote, SharePoint and Streaming Services.

Changes to OneNote

MS are also making a temporary adjustment to the download limit of file attachments in OneNote. They will restrict the download of file attachments to 100MB. MS advise most OneNote clients limit file uploads to 50MB, so this shouldn't impact most attachments.

MS do not expect this change to impact most users, but wanted to make them aware and share best practices.

Changes to Sharepoint

MS are scheduling specific back end operations to regional evening and weekend business hours. They will also be reducing video resolution for playback videos.

Changes to Streaming Services

MS have announced people's timeline has been disabled for newly uploaded videos; however pre-Existing videos will not be impacted.

MS have also said meeting recording video resolution will be adjusted to 720p.
