Be Part of Something Incredible, Be Part of History - Open Day and Volunteering at Fort Amherst

04-Jul-2019

Fort Amherst invites you to a special open day celebrating the exciting restoration works happening on The Command of the Heights Project, and is offering you the chance to be part of the Fort’s on-going work.

Fort Amherst Open Day, July 2019

July 13th 2019 will see the Fort’s special open day celebrating the exciting restoration work happening on The Command of the Heights Project, a heritage regeneration project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Visitors can come and see the latest developments, find out how things will look when the work is completed and enjoy the Fort’s amazing views across the River Medway.

Come and explore Fort Amherst and get to know a bit more about the project and how people of all ages can get involved. With food, tours and lots of fun activities for all the family – and a chance to FIRE A CANNON!

Visitors will also have the opportunity to find out more about – as well as take part in - the Command of the Heights' launch event: The Chatham Witch

Launching in September 2019 The Chatham Witch is an exciting new community project and largescale, outdoor theatre show, and they want you to be part of it!

Being organised by Icon Theatre, The show explores the true story of an Anglo-Saxon burial that was uncovered as they dug the fort’s foundations in 1755 and with it the history of witchcraft and women in Medway.

Icon Theatre are looking for actors, dancers, artists, musicians and backstage helpers as they start preparations and plan rehearsals.

For more information or register your interest, you can contact Nancy Hirst, Event Curator, by email at nancyh@icontheatre.org.uk or just turn up on the day.

Be a Volunteer for Fort Amherst

As well as placements for The Chatham Witch project, Fort Amherst are also taking applications for the various and on-going volunteering opportunities going on at the Fort.

By volunteering at Fort Amherst, not only would volunteers get the chance to learn the fascinating history about the Fort, they could also get a behind the scenes look at how The Fort cares for the historic site.

Whether you enjoy interacting with people or prefer volunteering behind the scenes, there are various and ongoing positions always available; from guides to help with tunnel tours, site Gardeners and DIY; through to Office and Administration Assistants.

For more information, or to apply for a place, you can email the Fort’s Human Resources at generalmanager@fortamherst.com, or visit the website.
