New Volunteering offers for Medway!

Medway Volunteering Network launched

Medway Voluntary Action has recently launched its own volunteering offer in conjunction with celebrations for National Volunteers Week. The Medway Volunteer Network (MVN) recognises that people are busier than ever and connect in different ways, so it’s important to offer them new routes to participating in volunteering.

MVN offers people online resources and new social media communities that they can access at a time and place that suits them – so it will reach a greater audience of people who are giving, or thinking about giving, their time to help others in Medway.

MVN offers organisations that recruit:

  • A free of charge option to register volunteering opportunities, which will appear on both website and in a fortnightly MVN Bulletin that will be sent to all volunteers who subscribe.
  • Free online support and tools to help recruit, support and retain volunteers.

People looking for volunteering opportunities will be able to:

  • Become part of a community that celebrates volunteering – and, most importantly, gives Medway volunteers a space to connect and chat with like-minded people
  • Subscribe to a regular bulletin that will give the most up to date volunteering opportunities along with relevant volunteering news and information
  • Access news and advice to help them to achieve their goals.

Two Volunteer Centres to partner

Medway Volunteer Centre and Hands and Gillingham Volunteer Centre have announced that they will be working together to offer a joined up and united volunteering service.

At the moment, the two volunteer centres operate alongside each other covering their own respective areas within Medway. Hands and Gillingham currently covers the Gillingham and Rainham area whilst Medway Volunteer Centre focuses on Chatham, Rochester and Strood.

Both centres currently offer independent services that provide support for individuals who are seeking opportunities and placements to volunteer as well as working with organisations who are seeking to recruit volunteers.

The two centres have decided to work together to provide a more streamlined approach so that local people have better opportunities to get involved in volunteering. The new system will see residents from across Medway have access to support and advice as well as Medway organisations be able to receive a bespoke package to help them recruit volunteers.

Working together will allow the work of the two centres to be utilised on a united front. Medway Volunteer Centre is an accredited volunteer centre.
