Volunteers Week 202027-May-2020
An invitation to anyone who supports volunteers!
If you are responsible for supporting volunteers in your group or organisation, you probably know that Volunteers Week (which was originally established in 1984) has put their celebrations on hold in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
At Medway Voluntary Action, we want to help the sector to still celebrate their volunteers with a bit of style during Volunteers Week (1-7 June).
That’s what we are inviting you to get your volunteers involved in a virtual Volunteer Creative Coffee Morning. Held during Volunteers Week, these sessions will:
Allow your volunteers to connect for an informal chat over a cuppa and cake.
Support your volunteers to create a creative origami piece that marks Volunteer Week that can be hung in their windows alongside the rainbows to support our key workers.

We are hosting two Volunteer Creative Coffee Mornings on the following dates:
Monday 1st June (14.00-15.00)
Tuesday 2nd June (10.00-11.00)
To help ensure numbers are manageable in the coffee mornings, attendance will be by invitation only. So if you contact MVA to request a place (providing details of the number of volunteers you’d like to invite and on what date), we will send you a link for the session that you can then share with your volunteers. To book your place(s) please contact us on: firstname.lastname@example.org
If you cannot make one of these sessions, you can host your own one online and take a picture and tag it on social media with #MedwayHeroes. You can then download the origami template and the instructions do to with your volunteers and they can join others in Medway by hanging this in their window with the rainbows for keyworkers.
To accompany these Volunteer Creative Coffee Mornings, we are also issuing a press release and social media campaign to help celebrate Volunteers Week that will invite Medway to include volunteers in their thoughts when they ‘clap for cares’ on Thursday 4th June.
We are also creating a dedicated Volunteers Week Gallery on our website – so if you would like to post some of your volunteering photos on this page please send them to email@example.com and we’ll get them added.
We hope that you can join us for our Volunteer Creative Coffee Mornings and look forward to seeing your volunteers at the session – contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange spaces for your volunteers. In the meantime, you can still access Volunteers Week resources at: https://volunteersweek.org/get-involved/resources/
In light of the social distancing requirements arising from Covid-19, MVA have made the difficult decision to postpone the Barry Clout Award for 2020, as it is felt that any nominees would miss out on the usual celebrations that accompany this Award. We hope to host the Barry Clout Award again in 2021, so please keep thinking about possible nominations!
